Werner Herzog is a man who seems to like to make movies in fits and bursts. While he’s made documentaries in the past few years, the only fiction film we’ve we’ve had is Recue Dawn (and even that was on a subject he’d already made a documentary about). However now we’ve got two film’s coming out in fairly quick succession. His remake of Abel Ferrara’s Bad Lieutenant will be out in a few months, and now we’ve got the David Lynch produced thriller – My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done – both of which are showing at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
My Son is partly based on a true story (although the director has said about 70% of it has been altered for the film) about a man who gets cast in the Greek tragedy Orestes, only for his life to start getting mixed up with the play in his head, with the result that he ends up killing his mother.
