Sometimes when you hear about what Hollywood has decided to adapt for the big screen, you can’t help but think they’ve gone slightly crazy, especially when it comes to toys and games. With everything from Monopoly to Battleship currently in the works, it really does seem that as long as people have heard of it, Hollywood will make a movie out of it, whether it makes any sense or not.
The latest to be announced is that Warner Bros is developing a movie based on Lego. Although you could understand if this was a film based on the Lego world of Bionicle or one of their other themed collections, this is being pitched as simply a Lego movie, that will mix live action and animation.
According to Variety, Warner are keeping the plot under wraps, other than describing it as a family action-adventure set in a Lego world.
It’s not the first time people have tried to make a Lego film, but the Danish company turned down most approaches, but felt this new pitch embraced their core values, including, according to the film’s producer, Dan Lin, “a fun factor, creativity and that imagination has no boundaries.”
Dan and Kevin Hageman are writing the script and apparently work on the movie has been going on for over a year, although there’s no news yet on when the film might actually get made.
As Lego isn’t exactly the most plot-driven toy, let’s hope they’ve come up with a way to make the film look like more than a 90-minute advert.
