Despite his breakout success in Superbad, so far Jonah Hill’s mainly had to stick to playing supporting roles in the likes of Accepted and Night At The Museum II, but he’s trying to change that with several upcoming projects that will see him taking the lead and hopefully turn him into a proper movie star.
These films include next year’s Get Him To The Greek (with Hill playing a record company intern trying to control Russell Brand’s rock star character from Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and a movie with the Duplass Brothers, plus The Adventurer’s Handbook, which will also star Jason Segel and Jason Schwartzman.
Now another new project has been announced, with Universal buying a pitch for the script The Best Thing About Pam Rooney, with Hill attached to star and executive produce. The movie will be written by Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien who, like Hill, emerged from the Judd Apatow comedy factory. The screenwriting duo were producers of Apatow’s Funny People, and have also worked on other productions from the comedy kingpin.
There’s no news on what Pam Rooney is actually about, other than Variety describing it as a “high-concept romantic comedy”. It’s all good news as Hollywood has been run low on fat-guy comedy stars, although let’s pray Hill doesn’t go the way of John Belushi, Chris Farley and John Candy.
