It just goes to show that the idea of a big break isn’t a ficition that wannabes console themselves with. A few months ago Lucy Punch was a talented but relatively little known British actress, and then Woody Allen cast her as Nicole Kidman’s replacement in his upcoming, as yet untitled, London set movie.
Filming hasn’t even started on that film yet, but it appears to have raised Punch’s Hollywood stock sufficiently that she’s now been cast alongside Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd in Jay Roach’s Dinner For Schmucks. The movie is a remake of the 1958 French flick Le Diner De Cons, which will follow the most pathetic guy ever to be invited to another man’s weekly dinner party.
Punch is best known for appearances in TV series like ‘Doc Martin’ and ‘The Class’, as well as films such as Ella Enchanted, Hot Fuzz and St. Trinian’s. She’ll next be seen in a supporting role in the upcoming Anna Faris comedy, Young Americans.
Dinner For Schmucks is due out next summer.
