Leonardo DiCaprio sure likes to develop movies. His Appian Way productions is forever picking up new scripts, properties and ideas, some of which come to fruition, while most are never heard of again (IMDB currently lists DiCaprio as being involved in 27 films that haven’t been released yet). One of the projects they seem more serious about is giving fresh movie life to The Twilight Zone, as they’ve picked Rand Ravinch (The Astronaut’s Wife) to write the script.
Appian Way has been working on the film with Warner Bros for a year, so the fact that they’re still moving forward is a good indication that the movie may actually happen, although there’s no news yet on exactly how the planned Twilight Zone movie would work. It could be about taking an old Twilight Zone story and turning it into a full film, an anthology like the 1983 Zone movie that was directed by Steven Spielberg, John Landis and others, or something entirely original.
Either way, it’d be nice for DiCaprio to pick a fun project for a change, as for the last few years he’s been making such po-faced, serious movies that he’s becoming a bit boring. We know he wants to be taken as a serious actor, but chucking in a movie that people might actually have fun with every so often wouldn’t exactly hurt.
