A campaign has been started by the charity Action Against Hunger to try and get Al Gore to follow up An Inconvenient Truth with a film tackling the scourge of malnutriton. They’ve even gone as far as creating a trailer for the non-existent movie (embedded below), in the hope that the former Vice President will use the power and influence he brought to the climate change debate to help end the problem of global hunger.
Jean-Michel Grand, Executive Director of Action Against Hunger-UK says, “Through this campaign we want everyone, including Al Gore, to know that putting an end to the suffering of 55 million people whose lives are threatened by acute malnutrition is no longer a utopian dream, but a reality that we can make happen. By supporting this international petition we can make the fight against child hunger a global priority once and for all.”
The charity is asking people to go to the website www.askalgore.org, where they can watch the trailer and then sign a petition asking Al Gore to make the No Hunger movie. The petition will be presented to the Nobel Laureate in December at the climate change conference in Copenhagen. Although Gore hasn’t said he’ll make the film, he did say in Time magazine, “It’s quirky. I have to admit it’s a good idea.”
Whether Gore does make the movie or not, anything that higlights the problems of malnutrition has to be good, as it’s believed up to five million children die every year from acute malnutrition, even though cheap, effective treatments are available.
Take a look at the trailer for the movie Al Gore hasn’t agreed to make yet below (if you’re on the Main News page, click Read More to see it), and then head over to www.askalgore.org to sign the petition and find out more about the fight against severe malnutrition.
