It’s taken a long time for the final verdict to come through, but Europacorp, the company behind the Luc Besson’s 2000 French comedy hit Taxi 2, has been fined 100,000 Euros over the death of camerman Alain Dutartre, who was crushed by a car during the making of the movie. Luc Besson was the writer and producer of the film, while it was directed by Gerard Krawczyk.
Europacorp, which is part owned by Besson, had previously been acquitted by a lower court, which had sentenced stunt coordinator Remy Julienne to an 18 month suspended sentence and a 13,000 Euro fine. However Julienne’s sentence has now been reduced to six-months suspended and a 2,000 Euro fine, with more of the blame shifted to the company making the film, with the court saying they should have done more to protect the safety of those working on the mvie.
Both the stunt co-oridinator and the company have been ordered to pay a total of 60,000 Euros to Dutartre’s family in compensation for the accident, which happened after a stunt car overshot its mark during the filming of Taxi 2.
