When Dreamworks Animation were talking about the movies they planned to release between now and 2012 a few weeks ago, they announced three possibilities for the final flick on their slate, including a caveman comedy called The Croods, an adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s Truckers and a ghost movie they were pretty vague about.
Now it seemes they’ve come to a decision and the film for 2012 will be the spook flick, which is currently being called Boo U. It’s said to be about a ghost who isn’t very good at what he does and gest sent back to ghost university in order to learn how to be more scary. The film is being written by Simpson and King Of The Hill scribe Jon Vitti and is due to be directed by Tony Leonidas (Lilo & Stich 2, Igor).
It’s difficult not to wonder whether Dreamworks decision was swayed by the fact Pixar has announced Monster’s Inc 2 for 2012, and they’re assuming ghosts and monsters are going to be big that year.
There’s no news yet on the state of either the caveman film or Truckers, although presumably they may still get made for 2013.
