Frank Marshall has been spilling the beans on an awful lot of upcoming projects over the last few days. Last week it was announced the legendary producer of ET, Gremlins, Back To The Future and the Bourne Trilogy was moving forward with a biopic of cyclist Lance Armstrong, and this week he’s been talking about the status of other upcoming projects.
In an interview ith io9 he’s said that the long ruminating Jurassic Park IV is “a long shot”, which seems to be Hollywood speak for – it ain’t happening – while he says he’s still wanting to move forward on a remake of The Never Ending Story, bringing all the modern special effects to the project that weren’t available to 1984 version. However the problem with this is that no matter how enthusiastic he is, at the moment he doesn’t have the adaptation rights to the novel. Marshall said, “It’s another one where we’re still working on the rights. It’s a huge thing to get it. And once we get that, we’ll bring on a writer. But that’s kind of off in the distance, but it’s a great story.”
That would suggest we shouldn’t expect it anytime soon, but that it’s fairly likely to happen at some point.
Now Empire is reporting that in an interview with them, Marshall has suggested it’s not just Shia LaBeouf who thinks another Indiana Jones movie is coming (Marshall produced the other Indy pics), saying, “It’s really about the script… Once we see that, we’ll see. We’re not going to wait another 20 years. We’d all love to make another one. I’m anxious to hear the idea!” Again, it’s not a definite ‘this will happen’ but it does make it sound that plans are moving apace and LaBeouf isn’t merely delusional.
