Seeing as Disney’s desire to make sequels to Pixar movie was one of the major bones of contention between the companies before the Mouse Kingdom nipped the problem in the bud by buying the Toy Story studio, John Lasseter and co. certainly seem to have come around to the sequel idea.
We reported last week that among the movies Pixar plans to release between now and 2012 are Toy Story 2 and Cars 2. Well it now appears we can add Monster’s Inc. to the list for 2013. While Pixar hasn’t officially announced it, buyers at a licensing event in Las Vegas have said that they were told there would be a Monster’s Inc. 2 (apparently they were sworn to secrecy, but that hasn’t stopped them blabbing, the naughty people), while other circumstantial evidence suggest it’ll be arrriving in cinemas in 2013.
It seems the sequel will be directed by Pete Docter, who also helmed the first film, as well as Pixar’s latest hit, Up.
While normally we’d be worried about a follow-up to such a great movie, as the only sequel that Pixar has produced so far, Toy Story 2, was better than the already great original, we hold out hope another visit to Monstropolis will be worthwhile. And anyway, Pixar don’t seem capable of making bad movies, even if they wanted to.
